What You Need Before Filling Out a Chinese Arrival Card

Before filling out the arrival card for China, make sure you have the following ready:

  • Valid Passport: Ensure your passport is valid and has enough blank pages.
  • Flight Itinerary: Include details of your round-trip flights.
  • Hotel Booking Info: If you’re staying in a hotel, have your booking confirmation ready.
  • Other Possible Documents:
    • Invitation Letter: If you are visiting China on an invitation, you may need to provide this.
    • Work/Organization Certificate: If traveling for business, a certificate from your company might be required.

How to Fill Out the Arrival Card

There are three main ways for foreigners to fill out the Chinese arrival card:

  1. Traditional Paper Card: This is the classic method available at almost all entry points.
  2. Self-Service Kiosk at Airports: Large airports like Beijing Capital and Shanghai Pudong have kiosks where you can:
    • Scan your passport → select your language on the screen → print the card → sign and pass through.
  3. Online Pre-Fill & Quick Printing:
    • Before departure or upon arrival, log in to the official portal on your phone (e.g., Shanghai Airport Single Window).
    • Scan the QR code at a self-service terminal to print the card instantly.
    • If you haven’t pre-filled, you can still complete the form on-site.
Note: Only a few airports currently support online pre-fill. Most entry points still rely on paper forms or self-service kiosks.
